A LIBRARY THAT COMBINES BOOKS & IPADS : APPLE HAS SET UP A NEW FLAGSHIP IN THE CARNEGIE LIBRARY (WASHINGTON)
Apple stores are often retail design examples. And Apple new flagship in Washington does not go against this rule ! Apple indeed invested more than 30 milion dollars to renovate the Carnegie Library. After 2 years of work, the ground floor has been turned into a flagship and the library, the musem and the DC history center’s shop have been refurbished. The library indeed needed to be renovated. It has been built in 1903 thanks to the american patron Andrew Carnegie. It is a perfect example of the Beaux-Arts style. The american brand has set up its flagship at the ground floor, but the library, the museum and its shop still are accessible to all. Visits to the building should be boosted thanks to this renovation.
WHO MANAGED THIS RENOVATION ?
Famous “Mister Design” of Apple Jonathan Ive has managed the work site. Amongst others, he has designed the MacBook, the iPad, the iPhone… He now is the number 2 of the american brand. He collaborated with the retail architect’s office Foster + Partners, a heavyweight of retail design. It has offices in the whole world and its name is firmly established since its opening in 1967.
This library is the perfect place to stroll around iPads, state-of-the-art phones and MacBooks. If you have a limited budget, you can just buy a library card !
